Eye discharge

Eye discharge, also known as rheum, is a combination of mucus, oil, skin cells and other debris that accumulates in the corner of your eye while you sleep. It can be wet and sticky or dry and crusty, depending on how much of the liquid in the discharge has evaporated.

Causes

Eye discharge can be a sign of a number of different conditions, including:

• Dry eye: This condition can cause a variety of eye symptoms, including discharge.
• Conjunctivitis: Also known as pink eye, this infection causes the eye to produce a sticky discharge.
• Blepharitis: This condition causes the eyelids to become inflamed and create a sticky discharge.

Treatment
