First Responder
First Responder
A First Responder is a trained professional who is among the first to arrive and provide assistance at the scene of an emergency. First Responders include paramedics, emergency medical technicians, police officers, firefighters, rescuers, and other trained members of organizations connected with this type of work.
Roles and Responsibilities[edit | edit source]
First Responders are trained to quickly assess the situation and the patient's condition, and to perform emergency medical care. This can include CPR, defibrillation, trauma care, obstetrics, cardiac arrest management, and dealing with road traffic collisions.
Training[edit | edit source]
Training for First Responders varies by location and role, but typically includes a comprehensive education in emergency medical services. Most notably, this involves learning to work in high-stress situations, and gaining proficiency in life-saving techniques.
