Follicular large cell lymphoma

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Follicular large cell lymphoma is a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that is characterized by large cancer cells that grow in a circular pattern in lymph nodes. This type of lymphoma is considered to be a slow-growing or indolent lymphoma.

Symptoms[edit | edit source]

The symptoms of follicular large cell lymphoma can vary, but may include swollen lymph nodes, fever, night sweats, and unexplained weight loss. These symptoms are often referred to as "B symptoms."

Diagnosis[edit | edit source]

The diagnosis of follicular large cell lymphoma is typically made through a biopsy of an affected lymph node. The biopsy sample is examined under a microscope to look for the presence of the characteristic large cancer cells. Other tests, such as blood tests, imaging tests, and a bone marrow biopsy, may also be performed to determine the extent of the disease.

Treatment[edit | edit source]

The treatment for follicular large cell lymphoma can vary depending on the stage of the disease, the patient's overall health, and other factors. Treatment options may include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, or a combination of these treatments. In some cases, a stem cell transplant may be considered.

Prognosis[edit | edit source]

The prognosis for follicular large cell lymphoma can vary widely. Some patients may live for many years with the disease, while others may have a more aggressive course. The prognosis is generally better for patients who are diagnosed at an early stage and who respond well to treatment.
