Merck KGaA was founded in 1668 by Friedrich Jacob Merck, an apothecary in Darmstadt. The company has been privately owned by the Merck family for its entire existence. Over the centuries, Merck KGaA has grown from a small pharmacy to a multinational corporation with a presence in 66 countries.
