NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance) is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. It was founded in 1990 and is based in Washington, D.C., United States. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations and manages the evolution of HEDIS, the performance measurement tool used by more than 90 percent of the nation's health plans.

The National Committee for Quality Assurance was established in 1990 with the aim of improving the quality of health care. The organization has since grown to become a leading authority in health care accreditation and quality measurement.

Accreditation and Certification[edit | edit source]

NCQA offers various types of accreditation and certification, including Health Plan Accreditation, Managed Behavioral Healthcare Organization Accreditation, Case Management Accreditation, Disease Management Accreditation, and others. These accreditations and certifications are recognized nationwide as symbols of quality and commitment to continuous improvement.

HEDIS[edit | edit source]

HEDIS (Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set) is a tool used by more than 90 percent of America's health plans to measure performance on important dimensions of care and service. HEDIS is developed and maintained by NCQA and is used by health plans, regulators, consumers, and others to compare the performance of health care organizations.

Recognition Programs[edit | edit source]

NCQA offers several recognition programs for medical practices, including Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH), Patient-Centered Specialty Practice (PCSP), and others. These programs recognize practices that use evidence-based, patient-centered processes that focus on highly coordinated care and long-term participative relationships.
