Patrick Ho
Patrick Ho Chi-ping (born 24 July 1949) is a Hong Kong ophthalmologist, civil servant and former Secretary for Home Affairs of Hong Kong. He was convicted of international bribery and money laundering in the United States in 2018.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Ho was born in Hong Kong in 1949. He studied ophthalmology at the Medical College of Wisconsin and later practiced as an eye doctor.
Career[edit | edit source]
In 1994, Ho was appointed as the Secretary for Home Affairs in Hong Kong. He served in this position until 2007. During his tenure, he was responsible for implementing the policy of "one country, two systems" in Hong Kong.
In 2018, Ho was convicted of international bribery and money laundering in the United States. He was sentenced to three years in prison and fined $400,000.
Personal life[edit | edit source]
Ho is married and has two children. He is a devout Buddhist and has written several books on Buddhism.
