UCLA

UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) is a public research university located in the Westwood district of Los Angeles, California, United States. It was established in 1919 and is the second oldest of the ten campuses affiliated with the University of California system. UCLA offers over 300 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a wide range of disciplines and enrolls about 31,000 undergraduate and 13,000 graduate students annually.

History

UCLA was founded in 1919 as the Southern Branch of the University of California and became the University of California, Los Angeles in 1927. The university was the first of the UC campuses to have its own faculty senate, and it was also the first university in California to admit women.

Academics

UCLA is organized into six undergraduate colleges, seven professional schools, and four professional health science schools. The undergraduate colleges are the College of Letters and Science; Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science; School of the Arts and Architecture; Herb Alpert School of Music; School of Theater, Film and Television; and School of Nursing.

Athletics

UCLA student-athletes compete as the Bruins in the Pac-12 Conference. The Bruins have won 126 national championships, including 116 NCAA team championships.

UCLA alumni have achieved prominence in a wide variety of fields. Notable alumni include Nobel laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners, and a number of leading figures in various industries.
