Urine culture is a laboratory test to check for bacteria. It can also be used to test for yeast, or other microorganisms in the urine.

Purpose[edit | edit source]

Urine cultures can help identify the type of microorganism that is causing an infection which in turn helps determine the best treatment.

Common uses[edit | edit source]

Urine cultures are used to help diagnose urinary tract infections, such as bladder infections.

Post treatment[edit | edit source]

They may also be done after treatment for a urinary tract infection to make sure the microorganism that caused the infection is gone.
