| Description | A biochemical diagram showing the class of flavonoids and their source in nature through various inter-related plant species. The top half of the diagram shows the skeletal diagrams of the molecular structure of each of the 14 flavonoids depicted in this image. Each flavonoid is grouped into columns by the organism that is the source of these compounds in nature, whose taxonomic binomial name is indicated at the border between the top and bottom sections. The bottom half of the diagram shows the phylogenetic relationships between these organisms as illustrated by the cladistic diagram of common descent. At the bottom of the image are the common names for the organisms indicated, with white lines connecting to help assist the eye in analyzing the data presented in the image. |
