Summary[edit]

Summary
Description Illustration of the DQ locus on chromosome 6, upper panel showing the physical location between DR loci and DP loci on the same chromosome within the HLA region. HLA-DQ antigen is compoesed of two polypeptide subunit genes HLA-DQA1 and HLA DQB1. DQ alpha is encoded by HLA-DQA1 and DQ beta is encoded by DQB1. The bottom portion shows the haplotypes inherited by a persons mother (maternal) and father (paternal) A1 = DQA1 locus, B1 = HLA-DQB1 locus (also known as Celiac1). If a person is heterozygote at both loci, then mother and father differ in genes (alleles) at both A1 and B1. A1 and B1 express proteins alpha and beta - the DQ antigen.
