The COVID-19 pandemic in Thailand is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The virus was first identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Thailand was reported on January 13, 2020, making it the first country outside China to report a case.

  • January 13: Thailand reports its first confirmed case of COVID-19, a 61-year-old Chinese woman who had traveled from Wuhan.
  • January 22: The second case is confirmed, a 74-year-old Chinese woman from Wuhan.
  • January 31: Thailand confirms its first case of human-to-human transmission within the country.

  • February 4: The number of confirmed cases in Thailand rises to 25.
  • February 26: The first Thai national dies from COVID-19, a 35-year-old man who was also suffering from dengue fever.

  • March 1: The number of confirmed cases reaches 42.
  • March 22: The Thai government announces a state of emergency, effective from March 26.
  • March 26: A nationwide curfew is imposed from 10 PM to 4 AM.

  • April 3: The number of confirmed cases surpasses 2,000.
  • April 30: The number of confirmed cases reaches 2,954, with 54 deaths.

  • May 1: The government begins easing lockdown measures.
  • May 31: The number of confirmed cases stands at 3,082, with 57 deaths.

  • June 1: Schools and universities are allowed to reopen under strict health guidelines.
  • June 30: The number of confirmed cases remains stable, with no significant increase.

  • July 1: The government extends the state of emergency until the end of the month.
  • July 31: The number of confirmed cases is 3,310, with 58 deaths.

  • August 1: The state of emergency is extended again.
  • August 31: The number of confirmed cases is 3,410, with 58 deaths.

  • December 1: A new wave of infections is reported, linked to a seafood market in Samut Sakhon.
  • December 31: The number of confirmed cases is 6,884, with 61 deaths.
