The hospital was constructed in a remarkable ten days, from January 23 to February 2, 2020, to address the overwhelming number of COVID-19 cases in the region.

The construction of Huoshenshan Hospital was initiated by the Chinese government as a rapid response to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). The hospital was modeled after the Xiaotangshan Hospital in Beijing, which was built in 2003 during the SARS epidemic. The project was overseen by the People's Liberation Army and involved thousands of workers and volunteers.

Huoshenshan Hospital covers an area of 34,000 square meters and has a capacity of 1,000 beds. The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities, including intensive care units (ICUs), isolation wards, and diagnostic laboratories. The design of the hospital ensures strict infection control measures, with separate zones for contaminated and clean areas to prevent cross-infection. The construction process was highly publicized, with live streams of the building site attracting millions of viewers worldwide. The rapid construction was made possible through prefabricated modules and around-the-clock work shifts.
