Harald Franz Schmidt (born 18 August 1957) is a German actor, comedian, and television presenter. He is best known for hosting the late-night television show Die Harald Schmidt Show.

Early life[edit | edit source]

Schmidt was born in Neu-Ulm, Bavaria, West Germany. He grew up in Nürtingen, where he attended the local gymnasium. After completing his Abitur, he studied acting at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart.

Career[edit | edit source]

Schmidt began his career in the early 1980s, performing in various theatre productions. He gained national recognition in 1988 when he joined the cast of the popular television show Psst.... His breakthrough came in 1995 when he started hosting Die Harald Schmidt Show, a late-night talk show that became known for its satirical and often controversial humor.

Die Harald Schmidt Show[edit | edit source]

Die Harald Schmidt Show aired from 1995 to 2003 and was revived from 2004 to 2014. The show featured a mix of monologues, sketch comedy, and interviews with various celebrities. Schmidt's sharp wit and irreverent style made the show a hit with audiences and earned him several awards, including the prestigious Grimme-Preis.
