Adriana Iliescu

Adriana Iliescu (born May 31, 1938) is a Romanian academic, author, and former world record holder for the oldest woman to give birth. She gave birth to her daughter, Eliza Maria, on January 16, 2005, when she was 66 years and 230 days old. This record was later surpassed by Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara and others.

Early life and career

Iliescu was born in Romania. She pursued a career in academia, becoming a professor of economics at the University of Bucharest. In addition to her academic work, Iliescu has written several books, including a series of children's stories.

Pregnancy and childbirth

Iliescu's pregnancy was achieved through in vitro fertilization (IVF), using donor eggs and sperm. The procedure was carried out at the Giulesti Maternity Hospital in Bucharest. Iliescu's pregnancy was controversial due to her age, and sparked debate about the ethics of IVF and age limits for its use.

Later life

After the birth of her daughter, Iliescu has continued to live in Bucharest. She has stated that she hopes to live long enough to see her daughter grow up and become independent.
