Igbo is an ethnic group native to Nigeria, with a population of over 20 million people. They are one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa and are predominantly found in southeastern Nigeria. The Igbo people have a rich cultural heritage and are known for their art, music, and traditional beliefs.

The history of the Igbo people dates back to the 9th century, as evidenced by archaeological findings in the region. The Nri Kingdom, which existed from around 948 AD to 1911, is considered the oldest kingdom in Nigeria and was predominantly Igbo. The kingdom was known for its advanced social and political systems.

The Igbo people speak the Igbo language, which is a part of the Niger-Congo language family. The language has more than 20 dialects, with Standard Igbo being used for broadcasting and formal functions.

Igbo culture is rich and diverse, with a strong emphasis on community, kinship, and respect for elders. The traditional religion of the Igbo people is known as Odinani, which involves the worship of a variety of gods and spirits. Many Igbo people are now Christians, but traditional beliefs and practices are still prevalent.

The Igbo people are known for their entrepreneurial spirit. They are heavily involved in commerce and industry, and have a significant presence in Nigeria's business sector. Agriculture is also a major part of the Igbo economy, with yam being the primary crop.

There are many notable Igbo people in various fields. These include author Chinua Achebe, who is considered one of the most important African writers of the 20th century, and former Nigerian president Nnamdi Azikiwe.
