The PET involves infusing a standard glucose solution into the patient's peritoneal cavity, allowing it to dwell for a specified period, usually 4 hours. These comparisons help in determining the patient's peritoneal membrane characteristics, classifying them into one of four categories: high transporter, high average transporter, low average transporter, and low transporter.
