In the 1990s, Cala Foods was acquired by Ralphs, a subsidiary of Kroger. Despite the acquisition, the stores continued to operate under the Cala Foods name for several years. However, by the early 2000s, many Cala Foods locations were rebranded as Ralphs or closed down.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Although Cala Foods no longer exists as a brand, its legacy lives on in the memories of long-time San Francisco residents. The chain was known for its community involvement and support of local events and charities. Many former Cala Foods locations have been repurposed or taken over by other grocery chains, but the name still evokes a sense of nostalgia for those who remember shopping there.
