Colman's
Colman's is a British company that is known for producing a wide range of mustards, sauces, and other condiments. The company was established in 1814 by Jeremiah Colman, and it has since become a staple in many British households.
History[edit | edit source]
Jeremiah Colman founded Colman's in 1814 when he took over a mustard milling business in Norwich. The business expanded rapidly, and by the mid-19th century, it was one of the largest and most respected mustard manufacturers in the world.
In 1938, Colman's joined forces with Reckitt & Sons to form a new company, Reckitt & Colman. This company continued to produce Colman's mustard and other products, and it also introduced new products under the Colman's brand.
In 1995, Reckitt & Colman sold the Colman's food business to Unilever, a multinational consumer goods company. Unilever continues to produce Colman's products today.
Products[edit | edit source]
Colman's produces a variety of mustards, including English mustard, Dijon mustard, and wholegrain mustard. The company also makes a range of other condiments, such as horseradish sauce, mint sauce, and apple sauce.
In addition to these, Colman's also produces a selection of cooking sauces and mixes. These include gravy mixes, curry mixes, and casserole mixes.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Colman's has a significant impact on the city of Norwich. The company was a major employer in the city for many years, and it continues to be a significant part of the local economy. The Colman's Mustard Shop & Museum in Norwich is dedicated to the history of the company and its products.
