Frank Stitt (born May 31, 1954) is an American chef known for his contributions to Southern cuisine. He is the owner and executive chef of several acclaimed restaurants in Birmingham, Alabama, including Highlands Bar and Grill, Bottega Restaurant, and Chez Fonfon.

Stitt was born on May 31, 1954, in Cullman, Alabama. He developed an interest in cooking at a young age, inspired by his mother's home-cooked meals. Stitt attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied philosophy and worked in various restaurants to support himself.

Career[edit | edit source]

After completing his studies, Stitt returned to Alabama and opened his first restaurant, Highlands Bar and Grill, in Birmingham in 1982. The restaurant quickly gained recognition for its innovative approach to Southern cuisine, combining traditional flavors with modern techniques. Stitt's commitment to using locally sourced ingredients and supporting local farmers has been a cornerstone of his culinary philosophy.

In 1998, Stitt opened Bottega Restaurant, offering a more casual dining experience while still showcasing his signature Southern-inspired dishes. The restaurant features a menu that highlights fresh ingredients and emphasizes the importance of seasonality.

Stitt's third establishment, Chez Fonfon, is a French bistro-style restaurant known for its classic dishes and cozy atmosphere. It has become a beloved neighborhood spot in Birmingham.
