Inflamed
Inflamed refers to the condition where a part of the body becomes red, swollen, hot, and often painful, especially as a reaction to injury or infection. This is a common response of body tissues to harmful stimuli, such as pathogens, damaged cells, or irritants.
Causes[edit | edit source]
Inflammation can be caused by a variety of factors. These include:
- Infection: This is often the result of a bacterial, viral, or fungal infection.
- Injury: Physical trauma, such as a cut, bruise, or burn, can lead to inflammation.
- Autoimmune disease: In these conditions, the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells, causing inflammation.
- Allergies: Allergic reactions can also cause inflammation.
Symptoms[edit | edit source]
The main symptoms of inflammation are redness, heat, swelling, and pain. Other symptoms can include loss of function in the inflamed area, fever, and fatigue.
Treatment[edit | edit source]
Treatment for inflammation depends on the cause. It may include:
- Medication: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen, can help reduce inflammation.
- Rest: Resting the inflamed area can help the body heal.
- Physical therapy: This can help improve function in the inflamed area.
- Surgery: In some cases, surgery may be needed to treat the underlying cause of the inflammation.
Prevention[edit | edit source]
Preventing inflammation involves maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This includes:
- Eating a healthy diet
- Regular exercise
- Avoiding known allergens
- Regular medical check-ups
