Jonesboro is a city in Clayton County, Georgia, United States. The city is the county seat of Clayton County and is known for its rich history and southern charm. Jonesboro is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area and is located approximately 18 miles south of downtown Atlanta.

Jonesboro was originally named Leaksville, after a local settler. The city was later renamed Jonesboro, after Samuel Goode Jones, a railroad official. The city played a significant role in the American Civil War, serving as the location of the Battle of Jonesboro.

Jonesboro is located in the northern part of Clayton County, bordered by the city of Morrow to the west and the city of Riverdale to the north. The city covers a total area of 2.6 square miles, of which 2.6 square miles is land and 0.04 square miles is water.
