Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital is a tertiary-care hospital located in Four Bungalows, Mumbai, India. It was opened in 2009 and has a capacity of 750 beds. The hospital is named after Kokilaben Ambani, wife of industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani, who founded Reliance Industries.

History[edit | edit source]

The hospital project was initiated in 1999 by Nitu Mandke as a large-scale heart hospital. However, after Mandke's death in 2003, the project faced difficulties and was completed by the Reliance ADA group led by Anil Ambani.[1]

Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital has introduced several firsts in India and Asia. It has the first 3-room intra-operative MRI suite (IMRIS) in Asia, Asia's first EDGE Radiosurgery system, and India's first Spine Surgery Suite featuring the O-arm, among others.

In 2014, the hospital faced controversy when it offered incentives to doctors for referring patients. It later apologized to the Maharashtra Medical Council.[2]

In 2016, the hospital announced its plans to establish 18 cancer-care centers in rural Maharashtra, under the name Reliance Cancer Centers, which will be operated and managed by Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
