Limuru

Limuru is a town in Kiambu County, Kenya. It is located approximately 20km to the northwest of the country's capital, Nairobi. The town is known for its cool highland climate, fertile soils, and agricultural industry, particularly the production of tea.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Limuru is situated in the highlands of Kenya, at an altitude of approximately 2,300 meters above sea level. The town is surrounded by lush green hills, which are predominantly covered by tea and coffee plantations. The area's fertile volcanic soils and cool climate make it ideal for agriculture.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The economy of Limuru is largely based on agriculture, with tea being the main cash crop. The town is home to several tea factories, including those owned by Unilever and James Finlay. Other agricultural products grown in the area include coffee, dairy products, and horticultural crops.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

As of the 2019 census, Limuru had a population of approximately 50,000 people. The majority of the population belongs to the Kikuyu ethnic group, although other ethnic groups are also represented.

Education[edit | edit source]

Limuru is home to several educational institutions, including primary and secondary schools, as well as tertiary institutions. Notable among these is St. Paul's University, a private university affiliated with the Anglican Church of Kenya.

Transport[edit | edit source]

Limuru is served by a network of roads, with the Nairobi-Nakuru highway passing through the town. The town is also served by a railway line, which connects it to Nairobi and other parts of the country.
