Louis Roederer is a renowned Champagne producer based in Reims, in the Champagne region of France. The house of Louis Roederer is one of the few remaining independent and family-run Champagne houses.

Louis Roederer was founded in 1776 as Dubois Père & Fils. In 1833, the company was inherited by Louis Roederer, who renamed it after himself. Under his leadership, the house expanded its markets, particularly in Russia, where it became the official supplier to the Imperial Court of Russia.

Cristal[edit | edit source]

One of the most famous products of Louis Roederer is Cristal, a prestige cuvée created in 1876 for Alexander II of Russia. Cristal is known for its high quality and distinctive clear, flat-bottomed bottle. It is produced only in the best vintages and is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes.

Vineyards[edit | edit source]

Louis Roederer owns approximately 240 hectares of vineyards, which supply around two-thirds of its grape needs. The vineyards are located in the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne, and the Côte des Blancs. The house practices sustainable viticulture and has been moving towards biodynamic farming.

The production process at Louis Roederer involves traditional methods, including hand-picking of grapes and aging in oak barrels. The house produces a range of champagnes, including non-vintage, vintage, and prestige cuvées.
