Michael Chow is a renowned restaurateur, best known for his chain of Mr. Chow restaurants. Born in Shanghai, China, Chow moved to London at the age of 13 where he later studied at the Saint Martin's School of Art. His passion for art and design is reflected in the unique aesthetic of his restaurants.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Michael Chow was born on February 6, 1939, in Shanghai, China. His father, Zhou Xinfang, was one of China's most famous actors of Peking Opera. In 1952, Chow moved to London, England, where he studied at the Saint Martin's School of Art.

Career[edit | edit source]

In 1968, Chow opened his first restaurant, Mr. Chow, in Knightsbridge, London. The restaurant quickly gained popularity for its innovative blend of Chinese cuisine and chic interior design. Following the success of his first restaurant, Chow opened additional Mr. Chow locations in Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, and Las Vegas.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Chow has been married four times. His third wife, Eva Chun Chow, is a co-designer of the Mr. Chow restaurants and a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). Chow has two children, China Chow and Maximillian Chow.

Recognition[edit | edit source]

Chow's contributions to the culinary and art worlds have been widely recognized. He was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2012 for his contributions to America's cultural landscape. In 2019, Chow was honored with the Art of Elysium's Visionary Award.
