NLRP2
NLRP2 or NACHT, LRR and PYD domains-containing protein 2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the NLRP2 gene. NLRP2 is a member of the NLRP family, which is known for its role in the regulation of programmed cell death.
Function[edit | edit source]
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the NLRP family, which is known for its role in the regulation of programmed cell death (apoptosis). The NLRP2 protein is thought to have a regulatory role in the process of apoptosis. It is also involved in the maturation of the inflammatory interleukin-1β (IL-1β) molecule.
Clinical significance[edit | edit source]
Mutations in the NLRP2 gene have been associated with recurrent miscarriage and Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome.
