- Charitable organization: A type of non-profit organization (NPO) which centers on non-profit and philanthropic goals as well as social well-being.
- Political organization: Any entity that involves itself in the political process, including political parties, non-governmental organizations, advocacy groups and interest groups.

- Goal Orientation: Organizations are defined by the goals they pursue.
- Structured Activity: Organizations provide a structure for the activities of its members.
- Membership: Membership implies a sense of belonging and identity for the individuals involved.
- System: Organizations are social systems and they require a broader system to exist.
