Peter Buck is a prominent American physicist and restaurateur, best known as the co-founder of the international sandwich franchise, Subway. Born in South Portland, Maine, Buck has made significant contributions to the fast-food industry, revolutionizing the concept of quick, healthy meals.

Peter Buck was born in 1930 in South Portland, Maine. He pursued his higher education at Bowdoin College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in physics. Later, he received his Ph.D. in physics from Columbia University.

In 1965, Buck lent $1,000 to his friend Fred DeLuca, which led to the establishment of the first Subway restaurant in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The initial goal was to fund DeLuca's education, but the venture quickly grew into a successful franchise. Today, Subway has more than 40,000 locations worldwide, making it one of the largest fast-food chains globally.

Buck is also known for his philanthropic efforts. He has donated generously to his alma mater, Bowdoin College, and other educational institutions. He also supports various charitable organizations through the Peter Buck Foundation.
