Pietro Querini was a nobleman from Venice, Italy, who is best known for his shipwrecked journey to Norway in the 15th century. His detailed accounts of the journey and the people he encountered are considered valuable historical documents.

Pietro Querini was born into a noble family in Venice. Not much is known about his early life, but it is believed that he was well-educated and had a keen interest in exploration and navigation.

The Journey to Norway[edit | edit source]

In 1431, Querini set sail from Crete on a trading mission. However, his ship was caught in a storm and wrecked off the coast of Røst, Norway. Querini and his crew were stranded on the island for several months. During this time, they interacted with the local population and learned about their customs and way of life.

The Querini Report[edit | edit source]

Upon his return to Venice, Querini wrote a detailed report of his experiences, known as the Querini Report. This document provides a unique insight into the life and culture of the people of Røst in the 15th century. It also includes detailed descriptions of the geography and climate of the region.

Pietro Querini's journey and the Querini Report have had a lasting impact on the historical understanding of 15th century Norway. His accounts have been used by historians and researchers to gain a better understanding of the period. In Røst, Querini is remembered as a significant figure, and there is a statue of him in the town center.
