The Regents of the University of California is the governing board of the University of California system. Established on March 23, 1868, it is responsible for overseeing the operations and policies of the ten campuses that make up the University of California.

The Regents of the University of California was created by the California Constitution of 1849, which established the University of California as a public trust. The board was initially composed of 24 members, including the Governor of California, the Lieutenant Governor, the Speaker of the Assembly, and the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Over the years, the composition of the board has evolved, and it currently consists of 26 members.

The Regents of the University of California is responsible for setting policies and making decisions that affect the entire University of California system. The board appoints the President of the University of California, who serves as the chief executive officer of the system. The President, in turn, appoints the chancellors of the individual campuses.
