Shang ring

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

The Shang Ring is a medical device used for male circumcision. It was invented by Dr. Jianzhong Shang and is manufactured by Wuhu Snnda Medical Treatment Appliance Technology Co., Ltd.

History[edit | edit source]

The Shang Ring was first introduced in China in 2005. It has since been used in many countries around the world, including in large-scale public health initiatives in Africa to reduce the spread of HIV.

Design and Use[edit | edit source]

The Shang Ring consists of two concentric medical-grade plastic rings. The inner ring has a silicone rubber surface and is designed to fit tightly around the base of the penis. The outer ring is then clamped over the inner ring, trapping the foreskin in between.

Clinical Studies[edit | edit source]

Several clinical studies have demonstrated the safety and efficacy of the Shang Ring. A 2010 study in Kenya found that the Shang Ring had a lower rate of adverse events compared to conventional circumcision methods.
