The Berghoff is a well-known German-American restaurant located in Chicago, Illinois. It was established in 1898 by Herman Joseph Berghoff and has since become a staple of the city's dining scene.

The Berghoff restaurant was initially a men's only saloon that served free corned beef sandwiches with the purchase of a stein of Berghoff Beer. It began serving women in 1969 when Gloria Steinem demanded service.

The Berghoff's menu features a variety of traditional German dishes, including sauerbraten, wiener schnitzel, and bratwurst. It also offers a selection of American fare, such as steaks and seafood.

Berghoff Beer[edit | edit source]

The Berghoff restaurant is also known for its Berghoff Beer, which was first brewed by Herman Berghoff and his three brothers in 1887. The beer is still served at the restaurant today.
