Velvet apple

Velvet Apple (also known as Diospyros blancoi) is a tropical fruit tree species belonging to the family Ebenaceae. The tree is native to the Philippines but is also cultivated in other regions for its edible fruit and ornamental value.

The Velvet Apple tree can grow up to 20 meters in height. The leaves are oblong and can reach up to 20 cm in length. The fruit, which gives the tree its name, has a velvety skin and is typically red or orange in color. The flesh of the fruit is sweet and fragrant, similar to a persimmon.

Cultivation[edit | edit source]

Velvet Apple trees are typically grown in tropical climates. They require well-drained soil and plenty of sunlight. The trees are propagated through seeds, which are sown in the rainy season. The trees start bearing fruit after 5-6 years of planting.

The fruit of the Velvet Apple tree is consumed fresh or used in cooking. It is also used in traditional medicine in some cultures. The wood of the tree is used for making furniture and other wooden items.
