Canadian Thoracic Society[edit | edit source]

The Canadian Thoracic Society (CTS) is a medical association dedicated to advancing knowledge and improving patient care in the field of respiratory medicine. It is the national specialty society for respirology in Canada.

The Canadian Thoracic Society was established in 1946, originally as the Tuberculosis Association of Canada. It was later renamed the Canadian Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association, before finally becoming the Canadian Thoracic Society.

Mission and Vision[edit | edit source]

The mission of the CTS is to promote lung health by providing leadership in the prevention and management of respiratory diseases. Its vision is to eliminate suffering and death due to lung diseases through research, education, patient care, and advocacy.

Activities[edit | edit source]

The CTS conducts a wide range of activities, including the development of clinical practice guidelines, the organization of scientific and educational events, and the publication of the Canadian Journal of Respiratory, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine.

Clinical Practice Guidelines[edit | edit source]

The CTS is known for its comprehensive clinical practice guidelines, which are developed by multidisciplinary teams of experts and are based on the best available evidence. These guidelines cover a wide range of respiratory conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, and sleep apnea.

Membership in the CTS is open to all health professionals who are involved in the care of patients with respiratory diseases, including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and researchers.
