The Cardamom Mountains are a notable mountain range in Southeast Asia, extending through southwestern Cambodia and southeastern Thailand. The mountains are also known by their Khmer name, Krâvanh Mountains.

Geography

The Cardamom Mountains cover an extensive area, with peaks rising to over 1,500 meters. The highest point in the range is Phnom Aural, standing at 1,813 meters, which is also the tallest peak in Cambodia. The range forms a crucial part of the watershed for many rivers that provide essential water resources for millions of people in the surrounding areas.

Biodiversity

The Cardamom Mountains are recognized for their vast biodiversity. They are home to numerous species of flora and fauna, some of which are endemic to the region. The dense forests house a variety of wildlife, including endangered species such as the Indochinese tiger (Panthera tigris corbetti), Asian elephant (Elephas maximus), and Siamese crocodile (Crocodylus siamensis).
