Cities in Mexico

Cities in Mexico are diverse and numerous, with Mexico being the 11th most populous country in the world. The country is divided into 32 federal entities, of which 31 are states and one is a federal district. Each state is divided into municipalities, similar to counties, and each municipality is further divided into cities, towns, and villages. The largest city in Mexico, and the most populous city in North America, is Mexico City.

Mexico's cities are spread across a wide range of geographical locations, from coastal cities like Cancun and Acapulco, to inland cities such as Guadalajara and Monterrey. The cities vary greatly in terms of size, population, and economic activity. Some, like Mexico City and Guadalajara, are major global cities with populations in the millions and strong economies based on industries such as finance, manufacturing, and services. Others, like San Miguel de Allende and Oaxaca City, are smaller but renowned for their cultural heritage and tourism industries.

  • Mexico City - The capital of Mexico and the most populous city in North America. It is one of the most important cultural and financial centres in the world.
  • Guadalajara - The second largest city in Mexico, known for its cultural contributions, particularly in music and the culinary arts.

  • Puebla - Known for its rich history, culinary tradition, and the preservation of great cultural heritage.
