Cumberland—Colchester

Cumberland—Colchester is a federal electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1867. It is named after the two counties it encompasses, Cumberland County and Colchester County.

Geography[edit | edit source]

The district includes the entirety of Cumberland County and Colchester County. Major population centers include Amherst, Truro, and Springhill.

History[edit | edit source]

The electoral district was created by the British North America Act, 1867. It returned two members until 1968. In 2003, the district was abolished when it was redistributed between Cumberland—Colchester—Musquodoboit Valley and Sackville—Eastern Shore ridings.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

According to the Canada 2016 Census, the population of the district is 71,889. The median age is 46.7 years, higher than the national median age of 41.2 years.

Election results[edit | edit source]

The district has a history of electing members from both the Liberal Party and the Conservative Party. The current Member of Parliament is Lenore Zann, a member of the Liberal Party.
