Cyclin dependent kinase like 1

Cyclin-dependent kinase-like 1 (CDKL1) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CDKL1 gene. This protein is a member of the cyclin-dependent kinase family of serine/threonine kinases.

Function[edit | edit source]

CDKL1 is a serine/threonine kinase that has been shown to play a role in cell cycle regulation, particularly during the G2/M phase. It is thought to be involved in the regulation of chromosome segregation and cytokinesis, two critical processes in cell division.

Structure[edit | edit source]

The CDKL1 protein is composed of 346 amino acids and has a molecular weight of approximately 39 kDa. It contains a protein kinase domain that is responsible for its kinase activity.

Clinical significance[edit | edit source]

Mutations in the CDKL1 gene have been associated with various types of cancer, including breast cancer, lung cancer, and colorectal cancer. Overexpression of CDKL1 has been observed in these cancers, suggesting that it may play a role in tumor progression.
