David Leffell

David Leffell is a renowned dermatologist and oncologist, best known for his contributions to the field of dermatologic surgery. He is a professor of dermatology and surgery at the Yale School of Medicine, where he also served as the Chief of Dermatologic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology for over two decades.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Leffell was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. He completed his undergraduate studies at McGill University, where he majored in psychology. He then pursued his medical degree from the McGill University Faculty of Medicine. After completing his medical degree, Leffell moved to the United States to complete his residency in internal medicine at the Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Following his residency, Leffell specialized in dermatology at the Yale School of Medicine. He then completed a fellowship in Mohs surgery, a precise surgical technique used to treat skin cancer, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

In 1988, Leffell returned to the Yale School of Medicine as a faculty member. He established the Section of Dermatologic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology, which he led for over 20 years. His research primarily focuses on the molecular biology of skin cancer and the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

Leffell has authored over 100 scientific publications and has written two books, "Total Skin: The Definitive Guide to Whole Skin Care for Life" and "Manual of Skin Surgery: A Practical Guide to Dermatologic Procedures".

Leffell's contributions to dermatology and oncology have been widely recognized. He has received numerous awards, including the American Academy of Dermatology's Master Dermatologist Award and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery's Samuel J. Stegman Award for Distinguished Service.
