GTF2F2

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

GTF2F2 is a gene that encodes a general transcription factor that is part of the RNA polymerase II transcription factor complex B. This complex is involved in the early stages of transcription initiation and is essential for accurate and efficient transcription from RNA polymerase II promoters.

Function[edit | edit source]

The protein encoded by the GTF2F2 gene is part of the RNA polymerase II transcription factor complex B (also known as TFIIF). This complex is involved in the early stages of transcription initiation. It interacts with the RNA polymerase II enzyme and helps to recruit it to the start site of transcription. The GTF2F2 protein also plays a role in stabilizing the transcription initiation complex and in controlling the rate of RNA synthesis.

Clinical significance[edit | edit source]

Mutations in the GTF2F2 gene have been associated with certain types of cancer, including breast cancer and colorectal cancer. These mutations can lead to abnormal function of the GTF2F2 protein, which can disrupt normal transcription processes and lead to uncontrolled cell growth.
