Glencadam distillery

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Glencadam Distillery is a whisky distillery located in the Highlands region of Scotland. It was established in the year 1825, making it one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. The distillery is known for producing single malt Scotch whisky.

History[edit | edit source]

The Glencadam Distillery was founded by merchant George Cooper in 1825. It was later acquired by David Scott and his partners in 1827. The distillery has changed hands several times over the years. In 2003, it was purchased by Angus Dundee Distillers, an independent company specializing in the production, blending, and bottling of Scotch whisky.

Production[edit | edit source]

Glencadam Distillery uses traditional methods of whisky production. The distillery sources its water from The Moorans, a range of hills located close to the distillery. The water is soft and pure, making it ideal for whisky production. The distillery has two copper pot stills, which are used to distill the whisky twice. The whisky is then aged in oak casks for a minimum of 10 years.

Products[edit | edit source]

Glencadam Distillery produces a range of single malt Scotch whiskies. The core range includes Glencadam 10 Year Old, Glencadam 15 Year Old, and Glencadam 21 Year Old. The distillery also releases limited edition whiskies from time to time.

Visitor Centre[edit | edit source]

The Glencadam Distillery has a visitor centre that offers guided tours of the distillery. Visitors can learn about the history of the distillery, the process of whisky production, and taste some of the distillery's whiskies.
