Global (cutlery)

Global is a brand of cutlery products, known for its distinctive design and high-quality manufacturing. The brand is owned by Yoshikin, a Japanese company, and its products are produced in Niigata, Japan.

History[edit | edit source]

Global was established in 1985 by Komin Yamada, a Japanese industrial designer. Yamada was commissioned by Yoshikin to create a new line of kitchen knives that would appeal to professional and amateur chefs alike. The result was a range of knives that combined the best of Eastern and Western design principles.

Design and Manufacturing[edit | edit source]

Global knives are known for their distinctive design, which features a seamless, all-stainless steel construction. The handle of a Global knife is hollow and filled with sand, which provides the perfect balance for the blade. The blade itself is made from a proprietary stainless steel alloy known as CROMOVA 18, which is resistant to rust, stains, and corrosion.

The manufacturing process of Global knives involves several stages. The blades are first forged and then heat-treated to achieve the desired hardness. After that, they are sharpened using a whetstone, polished, and finally, the handles are attached.

Product Range[edit | edit source]

Global offers a wide range of cutlery products, including chef's knives, bread knives, paring knives, and specialty knives. In addition to knives, the brand also produces other kitchen tools such as shears, sharpeners, and knife blocks.

Reception and Awards[edit | edit source]

Global knives have been well received by both professional chefs and home cooks. They have won numerous awards for their design and performance, including the British Design Award and the German iF Product Design Award.
