HLA-A32

HLA-A32 is a human leukocyte antigen serotype within the HLA-A serotype group. The serotype is determined by the antibody recognition of antigen A32. This group is a part of the larger HLA system, which plays a crucial role in the immune system's function in humans.

HLA-A32 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the HLA-A gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a glycoprotein that plays a central role in the immune system by presenting peptides derived from the endoplasmic reticulum lumen.

HLA-A32 is part of the HLA-A gene family, which provides instructions for making a protein that plays a critical role in the immune system. HLA-A is part of a family of genes called the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) complex. The HLA complex helps the immune system distinguish the body's own proteins from proteins made by foreign invaders such as viruses and bacteria.

Clinical significance[edit | edit source]

HLA-A32 has been associated with a number of diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, celiac disease, and type 1 diabetes. It is also associated with a decreased risk of HIV infection.
