From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Ireland East Hospital Group (IEHG) is one of the largest hospital groups in Ireland, providing a comprehensive range of medical, surgical, and healthcare services. The group is comprised of 11 hospitals, both public and private, and serves a population of over 1.1 million people.

History[edit | edit source]

The Ireland East Hospital Group was established in 2014 as part of a major reorganization of the Irish health service by the Health Service Executive (HSE). The aim of the reorganization was to deliver patient care in a more integrated and efficient manner, and to improve access to, and quality of, healthcare services.

Structure[edit | edit source]

The IEHG includes 11 hospitals, which are divided into academic teaching hospitals, regional hospitals, and local hospitals. The group's academic teaching hospitals include the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and the University College Dublin affiliated St. Vincent's University Hospital. The regional hospitals include Wexford General Hospital, St. Luke's General Hospital, and Naas General Hospital. The local hospitals include St. Columcille's Hospital, St. Michael's Hospital, Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital, National Maternity Hospital, Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, and Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital.

Services[edit | edit source]

The IEHG provides a wide range of services, including emergency care, inpatient and outpatient services, maternity services, paediatric services, and specialist services such as cardiology, oncology, and orthopaedics. The group also has a strong focus on research and education, with many of its hospitals affiliated with University College Dublin.

Governance[edit | edit source]

The IEHG is governed by a Board of Directors, which is responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of the group. The Board is supported by a number of committees, including the Quality and Safety Committee, the Audit Committee, and the Finance Committee. The day-to-day management of the group is overseen by the Group CEO.

Challenges[edit | edit source]

Like many hospital groups, the IEHG faces a number of challenges, including increasing demand for services, ageing infrastructure, and the need to recruit and retain skilled staff. The group is also working to implement a new electronic health record system, which will improve patient care and efficiency.
