From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Joe's Steaks + Soda Shop is a popular Philadelphia-based restaurant known for its Philly cheesesteaks and old-fashioned soda fountain drinks. Established in 1949, the eatery has become a staple in the local food scene and has garnered recognition for its commitment to traditional Philly flavors.

History[edit | edit source]

Joe's Steaks + Soda Shop was originally opened as Joe's Steak Shop by its founder, Joe Tucker, in the Torresdale neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia. The shop was a local favorite for its straightforward, no-frills approach to the classic Philly cheesesteak. In 1999, the shop was purchased by long-time employee John Doe, who added a vintage soda fountain to the establishment, thus rebranding it as Joe's Steaks + Soda Shop.

Menu[edit | edit source]

The menu at Joe's Steaks + Soda Shop primarily features Philly cheesesteaks, made with thinly sliced rib-eye steak, melted cheese, and onions, served on a fresh Amoroso roll. The shop also offers a variety of other sandwiches, burgers, and hot dogs. The soda fountain serves up classic milkshakes, egg creams, and floats, with a variety of flavors available.

Recognition[edit | edit source]

Joe's Steaks + Soda Shop has received numerous accolades for its cheesesteaks, including being named "Best Cheesesteak" in Philadelphia by Philadelphia Magazine in 2016. The shop's soda fountain has also been recognized for its authentic, old-fashioned drinks.

Locations[edit | edit source]

In addition to its original Torresdale location, Joe's Steaks + Soda Shop has a second location in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, which opened in 2013.
