Journal of Health and Social Behavior is a quarterly, peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes papers in the field of sociology. The journal's editor is Debra Umberson (University of Texas at Austin). It has been in publication since 1960 and is currently published by Sage Publications on behalf of the American Sociological Association.

The Journal of Health and Social Behavior is dedicated to the publication of empirical and theoretical articles in the sociology of health and illness, which includes the social dimensions of health behaviors, the social determinants of health, the social experiences of illness, the social construction of health and illness, and the social organization of health care. The journal maintains a broad focus on the intersection of health, illness, and society while offering a mix of articles in such fields as medical sociology, health policy, gender, race, and social inequality.

The Journal of Health and Social Behavior is abstracted and indexed in, among other databases: SCOPUS, and the Social Sciences Citation Index. According to the Journal Citation Reports, its 2017 impact factor is 2.763, ranking it 5 out of 146 journals in the category ‘Sociology’.
