Katatonia is a Swedish metal band formed in Stockholm in 1991. The band started as a studio project for the duo Jonas Renkse and Anders Nyström, who were the founding members. Over the years, Katatonia has undergone several lineup changes and has evolved significantly in musical style. Initially, Katatonia was known for their doom metal sound with a significant death metal influence, evident in their debut album Dance of December Souls (1993). However, their style transitioned towards a more alternative rock and progressive rock sound in later releases.
