Kawolo General Hospital

Kawolo General Hospital is a public hospital located in Uganda, specifically in the town of Lugazi, within the Buikwe District. The hospital is situated along the Kampala-Jinja Highway, approximately 50 kilometers east of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.

Kawolo General Hospital is a government-funded medical facility that provides healthcare services to the residents of Lugazi and the surrounding areas. The hospital is managed by the Uganda Ministry of Health and general care in the hospital is funded by the Ugandan government.

The hospital was established in the 1960s to cater to the health needs of the growing population in the Buikwe District. Over the years, it has grown and expanded its services to accommodate the increasing healthcare demands of the community.

Services[edit | edit source]

Kawolo General Hospital offers a range of medical services including general medicine, surgery, maternity care, pediatrics, and HIV/AIDS treatment. The hospital also has a malaria treatment center, given the prevalence of the disease in the region.

Challenges[edit | edit source]

Like many public hospitals in Uganda, Kawolo General Hospital faces several challenges. These include inadequate funding, shortage of medical staff, and lack of essential medical equipment. Despite these challenges, the hospital continues to serve the community, often catering to hundreds of patients each day.

Future Plans[edit | edit source]

The Uganda Ministry of Health has plans to upgrade Kawolo General Hospital into a regional referral hospital. This upgrade will involve the construction of new buildings, procurement of modern medical equipment, and recruitment of more medical staff.
