Kelantan is a state located in the northeastern part of Peninsular Malaysia. It is bordered by Narathiwat Province of Thailand to the north, Terengganu to the southeast, Perak to the west, and Pahang to the south. To the northeast, Kelantan faces the South China Sea. It is known for its rich Malay culture, Islamic heritage, and traditional crafts. The state capital is Kota Bharu.

Kelantan has a long history that dates back to prehistoric times. The state came under various influences, including the Buddhist Srivijaya empire and the Hindu Majapahit empire before becoming part of the Malay Sultanate of Malacca. After the fall of Malacca, Kelantan became a vassal state of the Pattani Kingdom, a powerful Malay kingdom. In the late 19th century, Kelantan became a British protectorate until the Federation of Malaya gained independence in 1957.

Kelantan covers an area of approximately 15,099 square kilometers, making it the 8th largest state in Malaysia. Its landscape is characterized by lush jungles, rivers, and beaches. The state's geography is predominantly rural, with only a small percentage of its area being urbanized.

The economy of Kelantan is mainly based on agriculture, with rice, rubber, and palm oil being the primary crops. Fishing and small-scale manufacturing also contribute to the state's economy. Kelantan is governed by a constitutional monarchy, with the Sultan serving as the ceremonial head of state. The state government is led by the Menteri Besar, who is the head of the executive branch. Kelantan has its own state legislative assembly, which enacts laws pertaining to state matters.

Kelantan has a range of educational institutions, from primary and secondary schools to tertiary institutions. The state is home to several universities and colleges that offer a wide range of courses.

Transportation in Kelantan includes a network of roads, railways, and a state airport, Sultan Ismail Petra Airport, located in Kota Bharu. The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project is expected to improve connectivity between Kelantan and other parts of Peninsular Malaysia upon its completion.

Kelantan attracts tourists with its cultural heritage sites, traditional crafts, and natural beauty. Popular attractions include the Islamic Museum, Royal Palace (Istana Balai Besar), and the pristine beaches of the Perhentian Islands. The state's traditional markets, or "pasar malam," offer visitors a glimpse into the local way of life.
