From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Kibinago (Kibinago blosse), also known as the Silver-stripe round herring, is a species of fish in the herring family, Clupeidae. It is native to the western Pacific Ocean, specifically around Japan, where it is commonly used in the preparation of sashimi and other traditional dishes.

Description[edit | edit source]

Kibinago are small, slender fish with a distinctive silver stripe running along the length of their bodies. They typically measure between 10 and 15 centimeters in length. The fish have a delicate, slightly sweet flavor and a firm texture, making them a popular choice for various culinary applications.

Distribution and Habitat[edit | edit source]

Kibinago are found in the western Pacific Ocean, particularly around the coasts of Japan. They inhabit shallow, coastal waters and are often found in large schools. The fish prefer warmer waters and are most commonly found in areas with temperatures between 20 and 28 degrees Celsius.

Culinary Uses[edit | edit source]

In Japan, Kibinago are often used in the preparation of sashimi, a traditional dish consisting of thinly sliced, raw fish. The fish's delicate flavor and firm texture make it well-suited to this preparation. Kibinago are also commonly pickled or grilled and served as a side dish. In addition to sashimi, the fish are used in a variety of other dishes, including soups and stews.

Conservation Status[edit | edit source]

While Kibinago are not currently considered threatened or endangered, overfishing and habitat destruction pose potential threats to the species. Efforts are being made to monitor and manage Kibinago populations to ensure their continued survival.
